Events, Celebrations, and Customs that draw our Community Together:

The frequent performances at the Maryland Theater are popular activities. Many events take place at City Park in Hagerstown, which has a concert shell that serves as home to the Municipal Band, picnic and playground areas and site of the restored Hager House, home of the town founder. Our local Class A professional minor league baseball team is affiliated with the New York Mets. Several school teams have earned championships in football, girl’s volleyball and other sports.  For auto racing fans, Hagerstown Speedway is one of the premier dirt tracks in the ration offering a full schedule or racing in various classes.

For events with a religious connection, there are ecumenical hand bell festivals, ecumenical choir festivals, services in the Park, an ecumenical vacation Bible school, community Thanksgiving’s and Good Friday services.

Crowds flock to Antietam Battlefield's two major events, the Independence Day celebration and the illumination in honor of the Civil War dead. The Mummers Parade held at Halloween historically draws in excess of 100,000 observers. An annual citywide blues festival draws another 25,000 participants.  Concerts in the Park, the Community Concert series, events at Hagerstown Community College, school band and choir performances and athletic events round out a full schedule of community activities.
